At Waverley Studio College mathematics, we follow the Pearson Edexcel 1MA1 Mathematics specification. The course of study in Year 10 concentrates on developing understanding and increasing knowledge of areas within Algebra and covers the entire Statistics and Probability framework of the specification with some Geometry. Example topic areas are Sequences, Quadratic Expressions and Equations, Statistical Graphs and Charts, Averages, and Scale Drawing and Loci.

There are opportunities for a variety of learning styles. These include problem-solving; investigations; practical Mathematics; teacher exposition; routine practice; use of spreadsheet, database, dynamic geometry, and graphing computer programs; strategy games and discussion. Homework will be regularly set to consolidate on previously learned concepts and to gauge understanding.

The course of study in Year 11 concentrates on developing understanding and increasing knowledge of areas within the Algebra and Geometry framework of the specification with some Ratio. Example topic areas are Proofs, Functions, Vectors, Trigonometry, and Circle Theorems.

For Year 11, the course will be assessed by Mock Examinations in the latter half of the Autumn Term in conjunction with some smaller topic tests and teacher assessments. The public examinations occur in the Summer Term and will consist of three 1hour 30min papers with each of the three papers being scored out of 80. Entry to the Foundation or Higher Tier of entry is determined during the first half of the Spring Term.
